"The word Waneva is a fictional name I use to describe the misted, eternal and healing presence of the river in my life.  It has become the soul landscape of my writing, the wellspring of my teaching and the root of my being over generations."

Biography of Catherine Joyce:

I am a full time author and teacher of creative writing. I teach what I do: writing that stems from what 'haunts' you, writing shaped by inner stories. Not based on fact but on emotional reality, such writing mirrors how the world appears to you – be it in a poem, story, novel, play, memoir, monologue, or simple journal entry.

I have worked with my writing process, Write Yourself into Being, since 1971, both writing novels and teaching others to explore what is 'writing' them. Fascinated by the journey of creativity, I have taught out in the community, online, and in the schools, exploring how we come to tell our stories – how we mine inner realities to seed the creative process.

After my Honours degree in English (1971) from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, and my MA in English (1972) from York University in Toronto, I began my professional life as a scriptwriter with CBC TV, Toronto. With arts grants at the national, provincial and municipal levels for my writing and my teaching, I have been a published poet, novelist and magazine writer, a freelance government contract writer, a film and book reviewer, and a journalist with a weekly arts column.
